So, as you might have noticed, I’ve removed the Tutorials tab and replaced it with a Sketches tab.
The removal of the Tutorials tab is only temporary until I can figure out how I want to present them.
The sketches are just here and there doodles that I’ve collected on my hard drive the past couple of years. (Ok, maybe longer than that)
Soon-ish, I want to go thru some of my sketch books I’ve abandoned in the basement and scan some other stuff in and maybe have a nice turn table of sketches that can change every now and again to keep things fresh. And even better than that I hope to start a new sketchbook and will hopefully get some sketchy gems from those jams.
Enjoy the sketches

So, I sorta took the weekend off reading comics and watching movies.
After catching up on some True Blood tonight, I’m ready to get back to cracking.
Going thru sketches because I want to get a sketch gallery up soon and then I’ll get back to writing the comic. We’ll call it Project X for now.
Once I get to a point of some established elements, I can start the concept phase and start posting some of that to show the process.

I added a couple things last night. First was an image link for my resume on Linked In. The second was an email link right under my profile pic >>>>>>>>>>>>
I’m also looking to go thru some sketches to make an initial sketch gallery.
And then I can let this baby fly so I can get back to writing my comic.
Update 1: Looks like my resume link takes those with Linked In accounts to their own profiles. Whoops, I’ll have to fix that.
Update 2: Also looks like you have to have a Linked In account in order to view my resume. I guess I’ll have to post my resume right here to save all interested parties the whole link trip.
Update 3: Ok, I fixed the image link to direct those that are curious/ have vested interest/ have a Linked In account to my public profile. I’ve also added my resume underneath said link.
Update 4: I’ve added a Twitter link and a Facebook link over to the sidebar>>>>>> under Brad Heitmeyer Links. I will put in a new link category for sites which I frequent and artists blogs I follow in the coming days
I’ve finally got the gallery running under the Lightbox plugin and I’m very happy with the results.
Since I haven’t figured out a particular design for the thumbs layout I thought I’d kinda go thru the gallery as is and give a brief little diddy of what they’re about.
I’ve seperated them in categories of which the work was put towards
Bedlam- which is the company I work for, Bedlam Games. These are some recent work for some of the pitches we’ve made as a company that have yet to go thru as projects. These may or may not be on a temporary stint due to whether or not the pitches would resurface.
The next batch are varying Comics pieces for varying purposes
This a web comic I tried out, but couldn’t maintain on a more regular basis, called Call of the Coo-Coo. It was about the whole Lovecraft worlds and the mythologies that were made as a result.
This was for a comic pitch that will remain nameless for the time being as it may surface again.
This piece is sort of a sad spot for me. I used to follow Mike Wieringo’s blog religiously. It was one of the first things I would do in the morning’s as ritual as brushing my teeth. I took particular exception to one of his Spidey doodles he’d posted as a warm up that just jumped out at me for whatever reason. I never thought that Marvel colorists did his line work any special service and would more often take over the image rather than enhance it. So I took this piece and I digital inked it and colored it in a mode I thought fitting for his work. I tried sending him the piece to get his personal review, but I never heard back and he passed away from a sudden heart attack a short 8 or so months after. It was the first news I received after returning from the 2007 Wizard World Chicago show.
Captain Canuck is a character I know almost nothing about, and still don’t. But this piece was done as a sort of introduction to Riel Langlois, writer of Captain Canuck: Unholy War and other fine fiction. He seemed approachable and this was done as a means for a possible team up, but it never came to pass. At least he liked the piece…
This is a collage/ painting I made for a fan zine I’m a part of called Pulp Legacy. The inspiration was, of course, Norman Rockwell and the idea was to visual the feeling that we had as kids reading comics. I wish I had as cool of a treehouse and a Spidey mask to read my comics…
Miscellaneous
This is a DVD cover- jacket I made for my friend, Jason Dozois’s film- The Bubble Prize. The film asks the question,”Do you want to win or do you want to be right?”
These other “Misc” pics were done as random commission or just bored on a Saturday trying out different stuff in photoshop.
These last images are sort of bittersweet. They were done for a short lived horror magazine called Surreal. It was a writer’s showcase with accompanying illustrations as some eye candy that visualized a scene from the story. These were my contributions in no particular order.

My next goal is to make a Sketch and Doodles section, after I make something niftier for my Resume link.

I’m this close to getting the Lightbox 2 gallery thinger to work properly.
You can click on the first thumb in the gallery and it will activate the image floater and you can even scroll thru the images back and forth using the arrow keys, but I can’t seem to get rid of the text which opens the linked image in a new page….
Now I know why I’m an artist and not a coder.
With a little luck I should have it up and running correctly tomorrow.
Now it’s sleepy time

*Update*
EUREKA!!! I got it working. I really don’t know what I did, but it’s working now and I don’t want to touch anything. I’m really stoked now that I have this working.
Good Night.
I now have myself a little makeshift gallery. Please enjoy.
I’m going to try an imaging tool called Lightbox for the gallery, hopefully very soon, that will snazzy up the gallery and the viewing of such a lot more.
So, I’ve almost got a bead on that gallery template I think is so nifty.
In the meantime, I have almost finished the makeshift gallery I plan to use while I can properly set up the permanent one. One of the last things I almost forgot was the all so important watermark. I debated on whether or not to use one and decided that using one was the best option long term.
You can follow me and my daily adventures at twitter and facebook. I’ll soon make proper links over to the right side menu, but I could tell that you were just jonesing for more me.

…to say I don’t have much to post.
Tomorrow night is making thumbnails and setting up the initial gallery…um, night.
Have a handful of images selected that I can remove later if I find something better or just decide “Nah”.

So, while I’m virtually thumbing thru my collection of artwork thru the years, I realized that I probably need some permission to post some of them. Especially since most of the art is for projects not yet released.
So, I’ll hold off on the current crop (for now) until I can manage someone to give me a yay or nay.
Next I’m going thru sketches. Those should be easy to sort thru without need of someone else’s permission, except my own. There’s a butt ton of junk in there…
Stay tuned
The agenda for the next couple of days is finding images to start my gallery and figure out a temporary solution to how the gallery will work for the meantime until I can figure out those fancy flash configurations.
The gallery (after the initial images) will be posted as I create new pieces. I don’t want to have the gallery too dated.
The plan is to have a sketch, comic and illustration section for the gallery and I might add a 3D section further down the line as the 3D I’m creating is allowed to be posted.
For now I’ve updated the “About Me” graphic and made a link to my online resume via Linked In dot com.
I’ve also started writing a comic story that I will be making the art for as well. The Timeline for the story was relatively easy as it’s been bouncing in my head for about 8-10 years now. The work comes in writing the individual issues. And I also need to look into some names for most of the cast. I don’t think “Guy A thru Z” are really interesting character names…
